Mass Blaster: Ambidextrous Abstract Shooter

Image
Synchronized shooting in Mass Blaster Mass Blaster is one of the most intense arcade shooters for Windows and Linux. You will take control of two ships simultaneously to blast away at the invading Square Army. On your left, take down enemies with the red n' rad Trigerus. On your right, command the cool blue Pythagora to wipe out your foes. Choose from 4 modes of difficulty to fight your way through 10 gutsy levels. Only those with the skills to pilot both ships at the same time will go on to become High Score Heroes. This game shares a vein with games like Avoision and pumps adrenaline. Intended for one player, Mass Blaster plays superb with two pilots as well. Just get a keyboard emulator and a joystick to avoid key locking. Code is under GPL, while all other assets are under the not-so-free CC-BY-NC.

Panda Engine Book, Blendswap Upgrade, Avoision Ad

Image
Available as Paper, PDF, epub or PacktLib Panda3D 1.7 Game Developer's Cookbook has been published. Blendswap UI: Who needs links when I can do a screenshot? Blendswap has more features now. Artists have more control for one thing and can edit their submissions for example. I suspect that many visitors use Adblock, so let me share this ad that appears on Free Gamer today: Avoision

Developer Interview: Jared "Deraj" (Radius Engine/Avoision/Falling Blocks Game 2)

Image
Avoision & FBG2 Avoision and Falling Blocks Game 2 were reviewed 5 weeks ago in the Simple & Polished post and I got curious about the perspective of a small-foss-games developer (the interviews we have had so far were rather with big project developers). Their developer Jared "Deraj"  agreed to a short interview. Hey Jared! Where are you from? How's the weather? What do you do in life? I'm from Washington (USA). Right now, it's cloudy outside, but somewhat warm (considering it's winter here). I work in software development for a large technology company. Did you create Radius Engine as a first step towards a game you want to make or was it more of a programming exercise? What is the next step? Adding engine features? The Radius Engine as it exists today is indeed a stepping stone towards my eventual goal of creating an extensible scrolling shooter ("shoot 'em up"). Avoision and Falling Block Game were both games I wanted to create, b...

Simple & Polished

Image
Avoision  Falling Block Game 2 Avoision is a simple collect-dots-avoid-blocks game. Falling Block Game 2 is a Tetris clone. Both are simple games. Both are very polished! I avoided them at first, assuming they would be of the yet-another-hello-world-game type but luckily got over that arrogant moment. :) Neither forces full-screen, they scale to any resolution, controls are crystal clear and feedback is great. Both games use Radius Engine , which is a Win/Lin OpenGL/SDL/Lua engine. Kind of like LÖVE . For Arch Linux users : I made AUR packages for Radius Engine , Avoision and FBG2 . I use clyde for managing packages. PS: Sometimes polish is worth more than complexity. Can you name free open source games that are polished to the max?
